The Finish Line

Support crew have sent the team off at the last major checkpoint. We are now at the Nerang Velodrome, the finish line. In about 4 hours the team is expected to cross the 96 km line.

Shane was not well and was sick at the checkpoint. But he will finish it though. Brock is looking strong as ever. Stu is da man. He leaves the checkpoint camp as he found it. No mess what so ever. Unlike the Category 5 cyclone that is Nicole. I swear this storm has not weaken and will only get stronger as she approaches the end.

In the meantime we are trying to contact Kal who is babysitting the 2nd support crew vehicle without much success. Answer the call man! We are up so should you :) Ah well, we’ll collect the car at a decent hour.

Time now for some more shut eye.

Fibonacci receives their dog tags

5ish, 22hrs ish later: Team Fibonacci have all completed the for 2009. A job well done. Thankyou to all their supporters and well wishers.

The team are all sore but in good spirits.

Checkpoint 12

Fibonacci arrive to CP12

Time 11:24pm: Support crew have position ourselves at CP12 early. We anticipate the team to arrive at 1am. Just enough time for us to get some shut eye. Alarm set for 12:30pm for battlestations.

Shane being sick!

Time: 12:30am: Battlestations! The alarm woke us… which means we actually managed to sleep! Fifteen minutes later Nic calls and informs us they are 30 minutes away. Clockwork… gotta to love it when a plan comes together! The support team are very efficient. We had prepared their sub meals earlier at Syds. Hot water in the thermos. Hot noodles too. :)

Checkpoint 10 Syd Duncans Park

The support crew have been given the green light by officals at Advancetown to approach checkpoint 10.

This checkpoint is a major milestone in the event. At 66kms the competitors will feel the full effects of this enduring race. Syds has a big hill climb that is unrelenting and very exposed to the elements at the summit. Thankfully this year there is little to no wind and the tempature a mild 10 degrees.

We have started cooking the meals and prepared the site with their gear so they can woof down the meals and be off quickly. A big mistake is to spend too long at this checkpoint.

Since Numinbah we left Maz and Dylan who have returned to their cosy homes in Brissy. We spent sometime at our friends place up at . We were entertained, fed and drank their fine wine, beers and champayne. At last we were pampered by someone else. Many thanks to Bec and her great neighbours for their hospitality.

Checkpoint 7 Numinbah Hall

While setting up camp, Maz rocks up with Dylan in the back. Unfortunately Dylan sustained an injury at Polly’s and could not continue. His team has continued on though.

Dylan

BTW send us your comment and we will pass on your message to the team. They are doing a stellar job so far. The support crew is looking forward to going home early :)

Fibonacci arrive at Pollys

Update 5:10pm: Team Fibonacci has arrived before sunset! Nicole says hi to her mum and the team says hi to Whytey too. Warmth of your home huh? ya bastard! The team are still doing well with only a subtle hint of fatigue setting in. Understandable as this is the half way point. Nicey the cook is feeding the troops as they refuel and refill again preparing for the night trek. Bring on ’s.

The team arrived at 1:15pm and looking remarkably well. They are well ahead of schedule and everyone is feeling good after 36 kms.
