Planning for Insanity The Support Crew for Team Insanity consists of Matt Moores, Jenesse Valentine and Dennis Mellican. Team Insanity consists of Nicole Keegan, Shane Hollaway, Brock Janiczak and Wayne Van Eyk. Although capable of doing all the tasks required, the Support Crew found each had fell into a primary task: Dennis was the driver, [...]
Congratulations to Team Insanity for completing the 96 kms of the Kokoda Challenge in 26 hours 29 minutes 46 seconds and were the 16th complete mixed team to reach the finish line. A fantastic effort. There are now two trip reports, each from a different perspective on how the event progressed: Team Insanity’s Kokoda Challenge [...]
The support crew are now waiting at the finish line. Team Insanity arrived at 5:45am @ Checkpoint 12 tired and sore but in good spirits. Their estimated time of arrival is around 10am.
Team Insanity expected time of arrival is in 30 minutes. Support is waiting and ready with Hungry Jacks and coffee.
Team Insanity are now been pampered by their Support Crew at Checkpoint 5. They are a little ahead of schedule and their spirits are high. No injuries to report. We have supplied them with coffees from the Polly’s Kitchen cafe and fed them a sausage sizzle. Soon they will be off again after a change [...]
Team Insanity are on schedule and have past checkpoint 2 at 9:34am. The Support Crew have replemished their supplies. A couple of blisters from Brock but a quick sock change and a bandage will keep it good for now. Shane knees are holding up, but will require an extra knee brace at the next Support [...]
Team Insanity’s Kokoda Challenge Well after months of training the big weekend has finally come and gone. I’m a little surprised that I’m in a state of mind that allows me to even write this only one day after the event, but I guess I’m just riding the high of not just completing the challenge, [...]
Team Insanity have trained hard for Kokoda Challenge which has been documented on their Team Insanity blog. This weekend their hard work will be tested as the event kicks off early on Saturday. Follow them as they trek through the 96 kms of the Gold Coast hinterland live on the internet via KML Tracks. [...]
Yet another stupid o’clock start to the day. Our fearless leader Nicole consulted the gods of travel (Google Maps & Where Is) to work out that we needed to leave her place at 4:45am to arrive at the starting line by 6:15 and have plenty of time before the 7am start to the race. As [...]
Today Wayne returned for the first time since our Border Track outing. He’s been busy jet setting around the world for both work and pleasure, although apparently he’s yet to master the art of the junket and actually did work while in India and the US. Wayne show true commitment to Team Insanity (and a [...]
Our first training run for the Queens Birthday long weekend was a trek up Mount Barney via Logan’s Ridge. Nicole, Brock and Shane where joined by Dennis who was dubbed expedition leader (as he had the directions, map & GPS) and temporarily insane … so he fitted in quite nicely. The day began at [...]
Been a while since the last Urban Crag write up. Here are some memorable highlights since then: Fraser takes a whipper while leading Kiwi. At the crux, before Fraser could warn Shane (his belayer), he slipped and fell an impressive 4 metres. Meanwhile, Shane although caught off guard with no warning of the fall was [...]
Hellfire Pass and Polly’s Hill Practice There are four truly big hills on the Kokoda Challenge course: in Mudgeeraba Forest, Fairview Mountain, "Polly’s" hill, and the hill at Beechmont (up through Black Shoot and down via the Hellfire Pass). So what did Team Insanity do on the weekend? Tackle two of them. The KC [...]
Team Insanity headed to the Gold Coast and onto the KC course for the second time to practice the Nerang State Forest sections (the last 17.5 kilometres of the course) and we’d picked an excellent weekend to opt for a later start (8.45 am as opposed to anything closer to dawn) given the crisp [...]
Team Insanity’s training session last weekend was just a short, local one. Wayne was off on another work trip (some people have interesting sounding jobs… ) so Brock, Shane and I meet at the Mt Gravatt Outlook on Sunday morning with a map and a rough plan of walking for a few hours. All in [...]
It’s 11 weeks out from the 2008 Kokoda Challenge and Team Insanity has finally had a training session with all four members present! Our plan for the Labour Day Monday was to walk to Border Track between Lamington National Park and Binna Burra in the morning, then proceed over to the KC course to tackle [...]
